What to Avoid

Avoid these common mistakes in produce washer selection:

1. Cheap ozone units with unverified ozone output: Many low-cost (₹500–1,500) ozone "washing" devices sold online produce very low ozone concentrations — insufficient for meaningful pesticide degradation. Look for units that specify ozone output concentration (minimum 1 ppm in wash water) and have independent test data.

2. Using domestic ultrasonic jewellery cleaners for food: Many people use ultrasonic cleaners marketed for jewellery to wash produce. These may contain surfactant residues, use non-food-grade tank materials, or produce frequencies (35–40 kHz or higher) not optimised for food. Use food-grade ultrasonic washers with stainless steel tanks specifically designed for produce.

3. Over-relying on any single method: No single technology removes all types of contamination. Combine ozone (for chemical degradation) with mechanical action (ultrasonic, agitation, or rubbing) for best results.

Q: Can I just use a bowl of water to soak vegetables? Why do I need a machine? A bowl soak does some good — it softens soil and rehydrates wilted leaves.
